How to Care for Graphic T-Shirts

October 8, 2026

A favourite graphic tee can lose its shape or print detail when it is washed harshly. The first rule is always to follow the care label on your specific garment. The steps below are general habits that may help you look after a printed T-shirt; they are not a promise that every fabric or printing method behaves the same way.

Read the label and sort the wash

Check the recommended water temperature and whether machine washing, tumble drying or ironing is allowed. Separate light and dark colours, especially on early washes, and keep a printed tee away from rough items such as open zips or hook-and-loop fasteners that may rub against the design.

Turn the print inward

Turning a printed T-shirt inside out reduces direct contact between the graphic and other garments in a washing machine. Use a gentle cycle where the label allows it, with a suitable mild detergent. Avoid bleach unless the garment label explicitly permits it. Do not scrub the print aggressively to remove a stain; test the label’s recommended approach first.

Dry with care

After washing, reshape the shirt gently instead of twisting it hard. If the label allows line drying, hang it in a way that does not stretch the neckline, or lay it flat when the fabric needs more support. Strong direct sun can affect some dyes and prints, so shade may be a better choice. Use a dryer only when the label allows it.

Iron and store without damaging the graphic

If ironing is permitted, turn the tee inside out and avoid pressing a hot iron directly onto a printed design. Store it folded or on a hanger that does not pull the shoulders out of shape. Give the shirt a little space in the wardrobe so the print is not sharply creased for long periods.

Check the item you actually bought

Care depends on the exact fabric and print. Read the product details and attached label before trying any of these steps. If you have a question about an APNATYPE tee, contact us with the item name. For help choosing a fit that you will wear often, see our oversized T-shirt size guide.
